From charles.johns at d214.org Fri Apr 25 17:57:31 2008 From: charles.johns at d214.org (Charles Johns) Date: Fri Apr 25 17:50:29 2008 Subject: [RMHS] Mustang Update Message-ID: Good afternoon: This message was originally distributed earlier today, but I had a typo in the address line. If you are receiving it for the second time, I recommend that you remove yourself from this list and stay on the "rmhs11" list. I have a number of updates that I wanted to share. First of all, I know that there are still a number of people on this listserve mailing address that are no longer interested in receiving the postings. If you want to remove yourself from the list please click on [ http://lists.d214.org/mailman/listinfo/rmhs ] >http://lists.d214.org/mailman/listinfo/rmhs . Changes can be made at the same site. Secondly, the Post Prom Committee needs your help. Our school community's ability to operate a safe after prom activity rest solely on volunteers willing to plan, chaperone or otherwise facilitate the event. I've been informed that the committee needs help both for this year and next year to help with this critical event. Please contact Carol Adams at [ fcp://@d214.org,%238820009/*Mailbox/SENT%20MAIL/carol1217@comcast.net ]carol1217@comcast.net if you are able to help. Third, The Illinois Association of Teachers of English has formally announced the 2008 winners of its Best in Illinois Prose & Poetry Contest. The following Rolling Meadows students have been recognized for this honor: Prose Adin Lenahan--First Place Timothy Pauldon--First Place William Putzpach--Runner Up Lindsay Wallis--Runner Up Poetry Lauren Wolek--Honorable Mention Emily Miller--Honorable Mention Angela Gadinni--Honorable Mention Fourth, we've had very sporadic delivery of the Principal's Newsletter this month. The newsletter was sent out of our building on April 4th and some families have yet to receive it. On the other hand, some families received the newsletter two weeks ago. This has been a persistent problem. Please note that the newsletter is posted on line at the building website. We are considering abandoning the mailed Principal's Newsletter and resorting to just an online version. Several of our sister schools have already implemented this change. It produces a nice financial savings, time savings, and is obviously much greener. I'm interested in your feedback. Please email me with your feedback. I won't be able to answer the feedback, but I will carefully consider your input Finally, each year Student Council sponsors a "re-energizing" Spring Fling week as the end of the year approaches. We host several events throughout the week that give students and staff a chance to have a little fun! Spring Fling is also an opportunity for RMHS to help local and global charities. This happens through our seminar fundraiser called Mr. and Ms. RMHS, a competition to see which staff member can raise the most money for various charities. We also sponsored lunch games, seminar events, and a big end of the week assembly that determined which pre-selected charities would receive a sizeable donation from the Student Council. This year our Mr. and Ms. RMHS competition raised over $2,500 alone. Students and staff participating in the seminar and lunch events gained enough points to have money donated to the American Cancer Society, Children"s Memorial Hospital, Feed Our Starving Children, Create A Classroom, and Special Olympics. Overall these events initiated nearly $6,000 in donations to all of the above named charities. Way to go RMHS! Have a great weekend.
